JACKSONVILLE, FLA - The Jacksonville Sharks announce defensive back and wide receiver Scorpio Babers join the Sharks in 2011.
Babers (60, 196, Sam Houston) joins the Sharks after spending time with both the Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers. Babers originally attended the Dolphins May 2008 minicamp on a tryout basis and was signed to a contract on May 5. He was waived on July 30 in favor of cornerback Chris Roberson.
Babers was picked up by the Green Bay Packers August 7, 2008 to take the vacancy left by Brett Favre. Babers appeared in three preseason games and recorded three tackles. He was waived during final cuts. Babers was then re-signed to the Dolphins practice squad.
A three-letter winner, Babers played three seasons (2003-2004, 2006) at Sam Houston State. As a senior, he was an honorable mention All-Southland Conference after recording 46 tackles, an interception and eight pass deflections. He finished his collegiate career with 67 (37 solo) career tackles, three tackles for a loss.
Babers was a prep All-District 16-2A and team Most Valuable Player for Italy, Texas High school. He played both quarterback and cornerback in high school and also lettered in basketball and track and field.
The Jacksonville Sharks are members of the Arena Football League (AFL). The reigning South Division Champions play all home games on Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The Sharks return to action in March of 2011 for a sophomore season. Season tickets for the 2011 season are now available.
