Former Philadelphia Soul Defensive Back Jamaal Burgees

JACKSONVILLE – The 2019 National Arena League Champion Jacksonville Sharks have announced today the signing of Defensive Back Jamaal Burgess. This will be Jamaal’s third season of arena football and first with the Sharks. 



Burgess (5’10, 185) joins the Sharks after spending the 2019 season with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League (AFL) while on the injury reserved list. Prior to Burgess joining the Soul, he spent the latter half of the 2018 season with the Nebraska Danger of the Indoor Football League (IFL). While part of the Danger, he recorded 16 tackles and averaged 3.3 tackles per game. 


Burgess attended Bethune-Cookman University for his junior and senior years. During his senior season, Burgess recorded a total of 22 tackles and produced a career-high during his junior season with a combined 29 tackles. Before BCU, he attended West Hills College Coalinga for two years where he played as a defensive back. In his 10 games as a sophomore, Burgess totaled 17 tackles and two interceptions. Burgess is from Miami, Fl and attended Miami Killian Senior High School.
