JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced Friday that defensive back LaRoche Jackson will return to the team, as Jackson has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a two-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“It’s great to have LJ back in the fold,” Sharks head coach Les Moss said. “He is an intelligent player who is both a great teammate and a leader, and we are glad to have him back in Jacksonville.”

The 31-year-old Jackson (5’11”, 200) is set to begin his fourth season in Jacksonville and sixth in the Arena Football League. Jackson returned to the Sharks early in the 2015 season, beginning his second stint with the team. Making seven starts at defensive back in 13 regular season games played, Jackson totaled 59.0 tackles, eight pass breakups and three interceptions, finishing fourth on the team in all three categories.

During the Sharks’ run to an appearance in ArenaBowl XXVIII, Jackson led the team with 21 postseason tackles. He intercepted a pair of passes in Jacksonville’s American Conference Championship victory over the Philadelphia Soul, pulling in a deflection in the end zone on the final play of the game to seal the Sharks’ 61-56 win.

Prior to returning to Jacksonville, Jackson spent the previous two seasons with the Cleveland Gladiators, where he helped Cleveland earn a spot in ArenaBowl XXVII following the 2014 season. In 2014, Jackson finished with a team-high total of 105.5 tackles and added seven pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. The previous season, Jackson led the Gladiators in tackles (85.0) and fumble recoveries (4) while also recording nine pass breakups, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Jackson spent each of his first two AFL seasons in Jacksonville, as he was a fixture in the secondary on Jacksonville’s ArenaBowl XXIV-winning team in 2011. During that rookie season, Jackson racked up 119.0 total tackles – a single-season franchise record – snared six interceptions, broke up 10 passes and recovered two fumbles. The following season, Jackson again led the Sharks in tackles (97.0) and finished second on the team in both pass breakups (14) and interceptions (4).

Jackson attended Clark Atlanta University and is a native of Irwinton, Georgia.
