JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that Defensive Lineman Leon Mackey signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for his fifth year of arena football and first with the Sharks.

Leon Mackey (6’5”,260) spent the 2017 season with the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League but was placed on recallable reassignment prior the regular season, allowing Leon Mackey to sign with the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League where he played in three regular season games recording 2.5 tackles. Mackey helped the Rattlers in the postseason where the Rattlers defeated the Sioux Falls Storm 50-41 in the United Bowl.

In 2016, Mackey split time between the Chicago Eagles of the CIF, the Green Bay Blizzard of the IFL and finished the year with the Arizona Rattlers where he recorded four tackles and played in ArenaBowl XXIX. In 2015, Mackey signed with the Minnesota Vikings where he competed in both the Rookie Minicamp and Training Camp for the Vikings. In 2014, Mackey began his rookie season of arena football with Green Bay Blizzard but finished the year with the Arizona Rattlers helping Arizona to a ArenaBowl XXVII victory.

Mackey started his college career at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi. Mackey transferred to Texas Tech where he finished his college career recording 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks and one forced fumbles. In his final season with Texas Tech he received All-Big 12 Honors.

Mackey is a native of Wilmington, Delaware where he attended Christiana High School. The highly recruited defensive end received offers Clemson, South Carolina, Arkansas and North Carolina.
