TULSA, Okla. – Jacksonville Sharks’ QB AARON GARCIA has been named the National Guard MVP of the Week for his performance in Week 8 of the 2011 AFL season, as voted on by fans.

Garcia engraved his name in record books as he threw his 1,000th career touchdown pass Saturday, the most in professional football. The milestone came with 3:50 left in the first half, a 9-yard pass to Jeron Harvey.

“It feels incredible and to do it in front of my new family in Jacksonville, my teammates, I couldn’t think of a better night,” Garcia said during the brief ceremony after the touchdown pass.

The ball and Garcia’s red, number eight jersey headed to Canton after the game to be placed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Throwing for his 1,000th touchdown is something that has never been done before and may never be done again in the history of football. We are extremely proud,” Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said.

Garcia ended the night completing 19-of-31 passes for 274 yards and six touchdowns. His career total is now 1,003 passing touchdowns.

The Sharks (6-1) take on the Philadelphia Soul (2-5) on Friday, May 6 at 7:05 p.m. EST.

Other candidates for the award included Philadelphia QB Ryan Vena and Spokane QB Kyle Rowley.
