JACKSONVILLE, Fla - The Jacksonville Sharks announce defensive lineman Ventrell Jenkins has been placed on Other League Exemption after signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.

Jenkins (6’2, 305, Kentucky) has been the anchor of the Sharks defensive line starting at Nose Guard in nine games while starting at defensive end in one game. In ten games this season, Jenkins has totaled 11 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. Jenkins' play has certainly attributed to the Sharks stellar defensive rankings in 2011. Through ten games, the Sharks are ranked number one in sacks (26) as well as number one in rushing yards allowed per game (14.9).

Jenkins, a four-year letter-man at Kentucky, played in 46 games during his collegiate career. As a senior Jenkins switched from defensive tackle to defensive end and amassed 33 tackles, including 3 for a loss. He had 2.5 sacks for 21 yards, 1 blocked PAT and the game winning 56-yard fumble return touchdown against East Carolina in Kentucky's 25-19 victory in the 2009 Liberty Bowl.

Jenkins was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He attended Columbia HS/Glen Forest where he was a three-sport athlete. He participated in football,basketball and track.
