The Jacksonville Sharks look to bolster their depth at the wide receiver position by signing WR/DB Mike Hicks. Earlier in the week the Sharks placed wide receivers Sale Key and Jeron Harvey on Injured Reserve.
Hicks (63, 215) attended Tennessee Martin where he played wide receiver. As a member of the UTM Skyhawks, Hicks was named to the All-OVC First Team in 2008 and pre-season All-OVC First Team in 2009. Hicks played in 22 games (21 starts) and recorded nearly 1,500 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. Hicks set the single season touchdown receptions record at Tennessee-Martin with 12. He completed 7 games with 100 or more receiving yards as a Skyhawk. Earlier in his collegiate career Hicks spent the 2006 and 2007 season at Ole Miss where he saw action in 20 games, four as a starter. He is a recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award from the Ole Miss Chapter of National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (2005)
Hicks was part of the Sharks training camp earlier this season before being released. Additionally, Hicks also has local ties as he is a native of Jacksonville, FL. He attended and was a teammate with current Shark Jeron Harvey at Andrew Jackson High School. The Florida Times Union selected Hicks to their Super 24 Team in 2004.
