Jacksonville, Fla.- The Jacksonville Sharks announce wide receiver Jamarko Simmons has been placed on Other League Exempt after signing with the United Football League’s (UFL)Virginia Destroyers.

Simmons (6’3, 235) ,a versatile contributor for Jacksonville’s offense, played in eight games while starting three at wide receiver. He contributed a total of twelve touchdowns, six rushing and six receiving, to the top-ranked Jacksonville scoring offense (64.3 points per game). Through eight games played this season Simmons accumulated 22 receptions for 221 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 9 rushing attempts for 10 yards and six touchdowns. During Jacksonville’s game in Orlando on June 11th, Simmons rushed for the game-winning touchdown with 23 seconds remaining. In addition to his offensive statistics Simmons also made key plays on special teams as he finished with seven total tackles and a forced fumble.

Simmons, a four-year letterman at Western Michigan, left the school as the most prolific pass catcher in the school's history. There he broke all of former WMU Bronco and current Green Bay Packer wide receiver Greg Jennings' college records. Simmons finished his collegiate career with 260 catches for 3019 yards and 17 TDs. He is Western Michigan's all time leader in career receptions (260). Simmons also holds WMU’s single season record for receptions with 104 and receiving yards with 1267. He was nominated for1st Team All-MAC offense and Second Team Phil Steeles ALL-MAC offense in 2007. He was named MAC Offensive Player of the week on 9/3/2007. Simmons was the sixth player in Bronco history with 70 or more receptions in a season. Simmons caught the longest pass in Western Michigan bowl history at 76 yards.

Simmons was born in Flint, Michigan and majored in Secondary Education at Western Michigan University.
