12/28/2011 2:06 PM - JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that defensive back Ross Weaver has been placed on the Other League Exempt list after Weaver signed with the Detroit Lions earlier in the week. Weaver was added to the Lions' practice squad.
The 24-year-old Weaver (6'0", 215) had been assigned to the Sharks' 2012 roster on September 29. This marks the second consecutive season in which Weaver has joined the Sharks during the offseason before catching on with a National Football League team. In November of 2010, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.
Weaver played college football at Michigan State, where he appeared in 41 games during his four-year career. With the Spartans, Weaver totaled 86 tackles (65 solo), notched twelve pass breakups and grabbed two interceptions. He also forced three fumbles and recorded a sack. In the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl - his final game at Michigan State - the Southfield, MI native capped his career with nine tackles, an interception and a forced fumble.
