04/03/2012 3:33 PM - JACKSONVILLE – The Arena Football League announced Tuesday that Jacksonville Sharks wide receiver Terrance Smith has been selected as the Week 4 AFL Playmaker of the Week for his performance in Jacksonville’s 71-69 loss against the Tampa Bay Storm this past Friday night.

In the first quarter of Friday’s contest, Smith returned back-to-back kickoffs for touchdowns to help the Sharks match Tampa Bay’s early offensive output. The wide receiver excelled on offense as well, catching five passes for 69 yards and three touchdowns, including a 42-yard score with 4.5 seconds remaining in the game that put the Sharks ahead, 69-65.

For the day, Smith finished with 190 kickoff return yards and 259 all-purpose yards, setting new team season highs in both categories. He also became the first Shark to catch three touchdown passes and score five non-passing touchdowns in a single game this season.

Smith currently ranks second in the AFL in both all-purpose yards (618) and all-purpose yards per game (206.0). He also is among the league leaders in kick return average (6th, 22.7 yd/ret) and total touchdowns (T-6th, 9 TD).

The 25-year-old Smith is in his second season in Jacksonville. In 2011, Smith served as a key member of the Sharks’ secondary, recording six interceptions as a defensive back. The native of Aiken, South Carolina played collegiate football at South Carolina State.
