TERRANCE SMITH WINS SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

04/24/2012 4:52 PM - JACKSONVILLE – The Arena Football League announced Tuesday that Jacksonville Sharks wide receiver Terrance Smith has been awarded the Week 7 Spalding Highlight of the Week honor for his spectacular one-handed touchdown reception in Jacksonville’s 54-49 win over the Cleveland Gladiators last Saturday night.

The Sharks trailed, 28-21, early in the third quarter as quarterback Omar Jacobs dropped back to pass. Smith cut across the field from right to left, beat his defender to the goal line, snagged Jacobs’ pass with his right hand and held on as he crashed into the wall, securing a 25-yard touchdown. Smith’s fantastic play sparked a second half in which the Sharks outscored Cleveland 33-21 en route to their second win of the season.

For the game, Smith finished with five catches for 58 yards and that touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown, his third kickoff return for a score in 2012. Smith has now won a weekly award following each of the Sharks’ last three contests, as he was named AFL Playmaker of the Week for Week 4 and Week 6, respectively, after Jacksonville’s March 30 game in Tampa Bay and April 13 game against Utah.

Smith continues to lead the Arena Football League with 213.2 all-purpose yards per game. He also leads the Sharks and ranks sixth in the League with 16 total touchdowns and is tied for the team lead with 11 touchdown receptions in 2012.
