05/02/2012 5:31 PM - JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Wednesday that defensive lineman David Howard has been assigned to the team’s roster.
The 25-year-old Howard (6’3”, 290) was most recently with the National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars, signing with the team in mid-April before being cut by the team on Monday. Howard spent time with the Seattle Seahawks during training camp prior to the 2011 season. He was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but was released by the team before that year’s regular season began.
Howard attended Brown University, where he was a college teammate of Shark receiver Bobby Sewall. As a senior in 2009, Howard recorded 29 total tackles (13 solo), six tackles for loss and a sack. Following that season, Howard was rewarded with All-Ivy League honors.
Howard originally committed to Brown as a track-and-field athlete and later decided to join the football team as a walk-on partway through his sophomore year in school. He won back-to-back Ivy League championships in shot put, then concluded his track career to focus soley on football.
