05/15/2012 5:28 PM - JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that the team has executed a trade with the Arizona Rattlers. In Tuesday’s deal, the Sharks acquired defensive lineman Jabari Fletcher in exchange for offensive lineman Ailao Eliapo and future considerations.
The 22-year-old Fletcher (6’3”, 265) is in the midst of his rookie season in the Arena Football League. He played in two games with Arizona this season, recording three total tackles (two solo) as a substitute against the Iowa Barnstormers in Week 6.
Before joining the Rattlers, Fletcher spent some time with the National Football League’s Cleveland Browns in 2011, signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. Fletcher attended Division I Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse Appalachian State, making 41 starts and racking up 21.5 sacks in his collegiate career. During his senior season, Fletcher recorded 60 total tackles, 9.5 sacks and an interception. Fletcher is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.
Eliapo began the season with the Orlando Predators and was acquired by the Sharks on April 25 in exchange for quarterback Chris Leak. Eliapo played in one game with Jacksonville, starting at fullback in Week 8 against the Spokane Shock.
In other Tuesday transactions, the Sharks activated defensive back Bryan Evans from injured reserve and placed defensive lineman David Howard on recallable reassignment. Following the day’s moves, Jacksonville’s roster stands at the league maximum of 24 active players.
