JACKSONVILLE – The 2012 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that fullback Rendrick Taylor will return to the team’s backfield, as he has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Taylor is set for his second season with the Sharks after enjoying a strong rookie campaign with Jacksonville in 2012. Taylor battled through an early-season injury to appear in 13 regular-season games for the team, making 12 starts. While steadily improving in pass protection over the course of the season, Taylor’s biggest impact came with the ball in his hands.

In 2012, Taylor rushed for 227 yards and five touchdowns on 55 carries, good for an average of 4.1 yards per attempt. Among qualifying ball carriers, he ranked second on the team in third in the league in both rushing yards and yards per rush.

One of the rookie’s most impressive runs came in Week 11 against Iowa. In his first game after returning from injured reserve, Taylor took a handoff around the right edge and sprinted 31 yards into the end zone, a burst that earned him the league’s Spalding Highlight of the Week award. In addition to the run against Iowa, Taylor notched a pair of touchdowns in the team’s Week 4 game against Tampa Bay and closed the regular season with a seven-carry, 59-yard performance against the Pittsburgh Power.

Before joining the Sharks, Taylor spent time with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Taylor played collegiate football at Clemson University, where he actually began his career as a wide receiver before transitioning to fullback. Taylor is a native of Clio, South Carolina.
