SHARKS RETURN TOP RECEIVER IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

JACKSONVILLE – The 2012 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks added another major piece to the team’s offense on Friday, announcing that wide receiver Jeron Harvey has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a two-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“It’s great to have Duval’s finest back with us,” Sharks Head Coach Les Moss said of Harvey. “It’s obvious that he’s important to our offense, and there’s not a quarterback in the league who wouldn’t want to throw to him. We are very fortunate to have him back.”

The next two seasons will be the 28-year-old Harvey’s fourth and fifth in the AFL, as he has played every snap of his arena football career with his hometown Sharks. Entering the 2013 season, Harvey stands as Jacksonville’s all-time franchise leader with 218 receptions and 69 touchdown catches in regular-season action. He also ranks second among franchise leaders with 2,411 receiving yards in his three-year career.

Most recently, Harvey started 12 games for the Sharks in 2012, battling through a midseason leg injury to haul in a career-high 101 catches for 970 yards and 25 touchdowns, ranking first, second and second on the team in those respective categories. Harvey became the second player in franchise history to rack up more than 100 catches in a single season and also recorded eight multi-touchdown games in 2012.

The most memorable play of Harvey’s young career came in ArenaBowl XXIV following the 2011 season. With the Sharks trailing by three points, Harvey hauled in the game-winning touchdown pass as time expired to propel Jacksonville to a 73-70 victory over the Arizona Rattlers. During the Sharks’ three-game championship run, Harvey caught 16 passes for 175 yards and a team-high total of eight touchdowns.

During the 2011 regular season, Harvey crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time, totaling 90 catches for 1,077 yards and 33 scores. Harvey also notched a pair of rushing touchdowns during that season. He broke into the AFL during the Sharks’ inaugural 2010 season, catching 27 passes for 364 yards and 13 touchdowns that year.

Before heading to the AFL, Harvey spent time on the rosters of both the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and CFL’s Toronto Argonauts but did not see game action with either team.

A Jacksonville native, Harvey attended Jackson High School before beginning his collegiate career at Dodge City Community College. From there, he transferred to the University of Houston, where he was an Honorable Mention All-Conference USA selection as a junior.
