JACKSONVILLE - The 2012 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Friday that offensive/defensive lineman Jordan Carlson has been assigned to the team’s roster on a one-year rookie contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 23-year-old Carlson (6’4”, 300) spent each of the past two seasons at Northwestern College, a school in Orange City, Iowa that competes at the NAIA level. Carlson dominated along the defensive line as a senior in 2012, racking up team-high totals of 85 tackles (42 solo, 43 assisted) nine sacks while finishing second among Red Raider defenders with 18.0 tackles for loss. Carlson also recovered a fumble. Overall, Carlson’s performance earned him a selection as the Great Plains Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Carlson also excelled as a junior in 2011, leading Northwestern with 14.5 tackles for loss. He also finished third on his team with 70 total tackles, added 3.5 sacks and recovered a pair of fumbles. Carlson began his collegiate career at the University of Sioux Falls, which also competes in the NAIA.

Carlson is a native of Storm Lake, Iowa.
