JACKSONVILLE – The four-time South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Thursday that the team’s pet food drive held at Sunday’s preseason scrimmage was a tremendous success. Thanks to the generosity of Shark fans, the effort produced a total of 38,000 lbs. of pet food for First Coast No More Homeless Pets (FCNMHP).

“Before Sunday’s scrimmage, we challenged our fans to make a huge impact with this year’s pet food drive, and I am proud to say that our fans soared past our high expectations,” Sharks Managing Partner Jeff Bouchy said. “We are grateful for the donations to First Coast No More Homeless Pets and truly appreciate the energy our fans brought to the scrimmage itself.”

“We truly appreciate the Sharks and their belief in our mission of saving dogs and cats in our community and beyond,” added Rick DuCharme, founder/executive director of FCNMHP. “Our Pet Food Bank relies on these donations, which help hundreds of pets stay with their families and our shelters.”

FCNMHP’s Pet Food Bank distributes about 15,000 lbs. of food at every distribution event. For dates, qualifications, and more information on the Pet Food Bank, please visit Pet Food Bank recipients must meet income qualifications and must spay/neuter their pets. More than 5,000 fans attended Sunday’s scrimmage, in which the Sharks defeated the Tampa Bay Storm, 42-35. Fullback Jared McGriff-Culver scored the go-ahead touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, and the Jacksonville defense came up with a crucial stop on the Storm’s last drive to seal the victory. The Sharks’ regular season opens on Sunday, March 16, as the team will travel to face the Orlando Predators.
