JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that veteran Mac linebacker Pierre Turner has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 27-year-old Turner (6’2”, 250) enters his fifth season in the Arena Football League, heading to Jacksonville after spending the past three years with the San Antonio Talons. Turner saw action in 11 games during the 2014 season, totaling 13 tackles (seven solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks to go along with one pass breakup.
Turner’s two most productive AFL seasons to date game in 2012 and 2013, his first two years with San Antonio. In 2013, Turner notched a total of 26 tackles (18 solo), recorded a career-high total of 5.5 tackles for loss and recorded 4.5 sacks. The previous season, Turner recorded personal bests of 30.5 tackles (26 solo) and five sacks, adding a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
Turner first broke into the League in 2011, splitting time between the Cleveland Gladiators and the Orlando Predators. Appearing in a total of 15 games with the two teams, Turner logged 22.0 total tackles (17 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble in his AFL debut.
Prior to the start of his professional career, Turner attended the University of Richmond, where he predominantly spent time at defensive end. During his four-year stint with the Spiders, Turner recorded a total of 76 tackles and eight sacks. Turner is a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
In other Monday transactions, the Sharks announced that wide receiver Joe Hills and defensive back Terrance Sanders have been activated from Physically Unable to Perform. Additionally, offensive lineman Antonio Narcisse has been placed on Refused to Report, while defensive backs Brodrick Brown and Micheaux Robinson have been placed of Physically Unable to Perform.
