Sharks Fall in a Back and Forth Thriller
JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Jacksonville Sharks' undefeated home streak in the Tank came to an end after a wild, blow-for-blow scoring battle resulted in their third consecutive loss, falling to the western conference leading San Diego Strike Force.
The Sharks' defense started strong when DB John Huggins jumped into the passing lane and snatch his fourth interception of the season, halting an early Strike Force drive.
San Diego managed to strike first with a quick touchdown, but Jacksonville answered back immediately. Under pressure, QB Sammy Edwards escaped the pocket, kept his eyes downfield, and delivered a strike to WR Jadeon Stoeshak. Stoeshak climbed the ladder, securing a heavily contested catch in the end zone to put the Sharks on the board.
The second quarter opened with explosive field position from a big RB Jimmie Robinson kickoff return that set the Sharks up at the San Diego 12-yard line. Edwards capitalized instantly on the next play, faking left before cutting right through the heart of the defense for a rushing touchdown.
From there, the game turned into a track meet, defined by uncharacteristic special teams breakdowns for Jacksonville. San Diego ran back a kickoff for a touchdown, though Edwards answered right back with his second rushing touchdown of the night. The momentum shifted during a bizarre special teams sequence on San Diego's next deuce attempt; the ball bounced off the bottom of the upright and after a wild scramble, the Strike Force recovered for the TD. Jacksonville fought right back as Edwards connected with WR Marcus Rodgers took a short pass, broke through two tackles and waltzed into the end zone. However, the special teams unit faltered again, surrendering their third touchdown of the half. Refusing to back down, Rodgers caught fire and found the end zone for the second time in a three-minute stretch, cutting the deficit right before the break.
The Sharks went into the locker room trailing 41-34 after a chaotic, high-scoring half.
Jacksonville wasted no time erasing the deficit in the third quarter. Edwards delivered a perfect ball right into the bread basket of Stoeshak for another touchdown, tying the game at 41-41.
San Diego reclaimed the lead on their next drive, but Robinson Jr. responded with physical 4-yard rushing touchdown to knot the score again at 48-48.
As the fourth quarter wound down, the Strike Force managed to pull ahead. Robinson Jr. did everything he could to keep Jacksonville alive, breaking loose to pull the Sharks back to within one score with just 3:45 left on the clock. In the final moments, Huggins came up clutch yet again, making a crucial break pass break up to give Jacksonville one last breath of life. However, the early special teams blunders proved too massive to overcome, sealing the Sharks' third straight defeat and shattering their home-field invincibility.
Despite the loss the Sharks officially clinched a playoff berth in the Indoor Football League 2026 postseason. Entering a much needed bye week, this break serves as the perfect opportunity for the squad to hit the reset button before finishing out the final stretch of the regular season
